Day 7- Marvao

Today we spent a bunch of time trying to find the rental car place on route to our next Pousada. The GPS kept insisting we were there, but it was a university library... not sure what that was about.

We took a little detour on our way, we saw a castle sign and decided to go check it out. Turns out we love castles! lol

We gave up and decided to head to the Pousada Santa Maria in Marvao. When we pulled off the main road we saw yet another city built right into the mountain and (wrongly) assumed that was where we were going. A ways down the road we could see a big castle up on the hill and it soon became apparent that THAT was the direction we were headed in.

As usual, the GPS chose the most adventurous route to get us there. All I can say is thank goodness we didn't meet any cars wanting to come down the roads we were going up- one of us would have had to back up. Not kidding!

This Pousada is located right in a little Medieval village and is very cool. We had a suite here; the windows on one side opened up directly into the street, and from the other side we had a spectacular view of the Alentejo plains- in the farthest distance is Spain, we were quite close to the border.

We were just a short walk from Marvao Castle, and that is where we spent the afternoon. As you would expect, the views from the walls of the castle are amazing.
