Day 3- Murtosa

Our Pousada for this night was the Pousada Da Ria, which is located in the isthmus that connects Murtosa to the beaches of S. Jacinto.

This is right along the coast and we saw fishermen in their “Moliceiros” boats which have high prows and are brightly painted with religious motives and are typical of the area, and people digging for clams at low tide. We had a lovely view of the water from our room.

Our outing for this day was Porto, and that was an adventure in itself! It was very busy, it was murder trying to find parking- and when we did it was on a very steep hill... yikes! lol

We did enjoy an interesting lunch of grilled sardines and tripe (a regional specialty) down at the water, and we saw the famous bridge that was designed by the same guy that designed the Eiffel Tower. We had a lot of fun trying to remember where the heck we parked the car... Rich had told me in Europe that street names are generally posted on buildings- and when we did see one, that's where it was alright. But oftentimes during our entire trip, we couldn't find the street signs at all. Our GPS had a twisted sense of humour a lot of the time, but we wouldn't have been able to do this trip if we hadn't had her along...

The drive to and from Porto was really nice, lots of summer houses, lots of flowers, and I even saw one house that had Lord Baden-Powell painted in a mural on it's side!
